US President Joe Biden has blamed Russia and China for their lack of commitment in addressing the scourge of climate change.
Biden spoke to reporters in Rome on Sunday after attending the Group of 20 summit held in the Italian capital.
The president said, “Not only Russia, but China, basically didn’t show up in terms of any commitments to deal with climate change.” He added, “I found it disappointing myself.”
Before leaving for Europe, Biden presented a policy package that includes more than half a trillion dollars for clean energy.
Experts are skeptical the US will be able to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
Biden, however, was confident, saying that his government has initiated everything for getting automobile makers to commit to going all-electric. He noted that 555 billion dollars will be invested to combat climate change.
The president is expected to explain his country’s efforts to cut emissions at the UN’s COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow, Britain.
Nations are closely watching whether the US, which has rejoined the 2015 Paris Agreement, can come up with concrete measures to achieve its reduction target.
