Austria (Muhammad Amir Siddique)More and more tourists are slowly coming to Vienna again. In July it was 25 percent more than last year at this time. But compared to the period before the CoV pandemic, there are still very few. Overnight stays are still well below the pre-crisis level. In absolute numbers, Viennese tourism booked 577,000 overnight stays in July this year.
Compared to July 2019, however, the number of overnight stays was only 35 percent, as Vienna Tourism recently announced. Between January and July 2021, tourism in Vienna recorded 1.4 million overnight stays – 57 percent less than in the same period in 2020. This is due to the travel restrictions and the imposed hotel closings. This also has an effect on the hotels’ balance sheets, up to and including June there is a total sales decrease of 61 percent – three fifths – compared to 2020. The net sales of overnight stays amounted to 21.1 million euros in June In the period from January to June, the companies generated a total of 55.8 million euros. Sales data for July are not yet available. The beds in the hotels were occupied by 13 percent. Most tourists to Vienna continue to come from Austria, followed by Germany.
