japan ( Tokyo) Weather officials in Japan say a typhoon is expected to approach the Ogasawara Islands in the country’s far south from Saturday night through Sunday.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says Typhoon Champi is heading north over the Pacific Ocean south of the country.
It has a central atmospheric pressure of 980 hectopascals, and is packing winds of up to 126 kilometers per hour near its center.
The typhoon could bring maximum gusts of 180 kilometers per hour. It has a storm zone with a radius of 45 kilometers.
Agency officials are warning people in the Ogasawara Islands to watch out for strong winds and rough seas from Saturday.
They say rainfall may also intensify in other parts of Japan along the Pacific, as moist air from the typhoon is likely to fuel a seasonal rain front.
