A total of 265 new infections of the coronavirus were reported around Japan on Wednesday.
Eight deaths from the virus were also reported — four in Okinawa, three in Tokyo and one in Nagano.
The health ministry said the number of patients in serious condition stood at 115, five fewer than Tuesday.
