Leaders from across the world are gathering in Glasgow, Scotland for the COP26 UN climate conference.
The conference opened on Sunday, with 197 countries and regions participating. The summit will be held on Monday and Tuesday.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed world leaders as they arrived at the venue. US President Joe Biden and other leaders travelled from Italy, where they held a G20 summit over the weekend.
A key issue in the conference is whether the participants will agree on concerted efforts to limit the rise in global average temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The UN has released an outlook saying that the increase in average temperatures will exceed 1.5 degrees, even if countries fulfill their current pledges to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
