Austria:- In Graz, a violent storm on Friday evening led to numerous floods and uprooted trees. One of them crashed into an apartment building in the Lend district.
Parts of the roof, three balconies and several windows were damaged. Storms also caused damage in Tyrol. Violent storms caused severe damage in several federal states on Saturday night. The Styrian capital Graz was particularly affected. Many streets and cellars were flooded, especially in the north of the city. The Graz security management appealed not to leave houses, to avoid cellars and sources of voltage and to refrain from unnecessary car journeys. In the courtyard of an apartment building, a tree was knocked down around 6 p.m. and fell on the building, the Styrian State Police Directorate reported in a broadcast. The roof, the building front, three balconies and several windows were damaged. Parts of the tin roof collapsed onto Floßlendstrasse and there was a risk of further parts of the roof falling down, which is why the street had to be closed until 8:10 p.m. Nobody got hurt. The north of the state capital was particularly affected by the storm in the early evening. The fire brigade had to work through numerous other missions, in particular because of fallen trees, it said. The storm set in after 5 p.m. and within a few minutes some streets, including Elisabethstrasse and Hans-Sachs-Gasse, were under water because the sewer system could no longer absorb the amount of precipitation. In addition to squalls, there were also hailstones. Some measuring points recorded more than 100 liters per square meter, at some measuring points up to 160 liters were measured. A car with five occupants was hit by a mudslide yesterday evening in Grossarl in Salzburg’s Pongau region, which had come off after heavy rainfall. As the Salzburg State Police Department announced on Saturday, there were also blockages in the bed of the Ixenbach, which then overflowed its banks. The Ixenbach Bridge had also been torn away. The car occupants could have freed themselves, but were first supplied by the rescue workers and brought to the Grossarl fire brigade kit. Heavy equipment was required to clear the muddy road. The rescue workers also safely brought a total of 46 people from the surrounding alpine pastures down to the valley. The cleanup should also be done on Saturday. In the Tyrolean Oberland several trees were knocked over by the storm. At a campsite in Reutte, several trees fell around 8.10 p.m., the Tyrolean police department announced. People were not injured. In Fliess (Landeck district), a tree that had been uprooted blocked the L312. In Tobadill (Landeck district) 35 firefighters had to move out in three vehicles to remove an “extremely large tree” that had fallen in the direction of a residential area. Another tree made it impossible to pass a local road in the village. In the hamlet of Balzeren, a house roof had been partially covered, and a tree in the garden there had fallen. People were not harmed. After a landslide on the L18 Kaunertalstraße, the road remains closed in both directions for the time being, both inwards from the Gasthof Alpenrose (municipality of Kauns) and out of the valley from the district of Platz (municipality of Kaunertal). Experts are on site to assess the situation, informed the country in a broadcast.
