Pathum Thani: Japan’s Gaku Nawata was named Most Valuable Player of the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 on Sunday while his two goals in the 3-0 win against Korea Republic in Sunday’s final saw win emerge the Cremo Top Goalscorer as well. The brace took Nawata’s total to five goals in a tournament he played a major role in as Japan became the first team to have their named engraved on the newly-minted trophy.
“I am very happy to win these two awards. Now I want to do my best for the (FIFA U17) World Cup.
During the course of the competition, I had the opportunity to score many goals but failed to do so. I am glad that I was able to play a big role in our triumph today. “We will, as a team, work hard to improve for the World Cup as our target is to, at least, reach the semi-finals,” said Nawata.
