TASHKENT, November 11, 2021 – The 2021 World Sambo and Combat Sambo Championships will go down in history as the first tournament to be held by the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) after it received permanent recognition from the International Olympic Committee, said FIAS President Vasiliy Shestakov.
Sambo wrestlers from about 50 countries will take part in the tournament. 21 medals in seven weight categories will be awarded for men, women and combat sambo. Cash prizes are set for sambo athletes who are not spoiled with money encouragement. The total prize fund is 231 thousand dollars, which perhaps for tennis players or hockey players will seem modest. The champion will receive 4,000, 3,000 for silver, 2,000 for bronze. And, of course, the best sambo wrestlers will immediately move up in the world ranking.
In Tashkent, all participants will have to regularly take PCR tests and accurately comply with all established sanitary standards. The task of the organizers of the championships, which will be held in the sports complex “Uzbekistan”, is not easy. But according to FIAS President Shestakov, the Sambo Association of Uzbekistan has done everything to ensure the safety of all those accredited at the championship and to hold the tournament at a high level.
