The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 4,515 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday.
The figure is the second-highest ever for the Japanese capital. The daily tally has exceeded 4,000 for three straight days.
Officials also say 141 people are in serious condition, up six from Thursday.
It is the first time since January 31 this year that the number of seriously ill patients has topped 140.
