KARACHI – The Sindh Cabinet has decided to establish a judicial commission to investigate the murder of young businessman Mir Raza Ali Khan.
According to reports, the Sindh government has written to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, requesting the formation of a judicial commission to conduct an inquiry into Mir Raza’s death.
A spokesperson for the Sindh Chief Minister said the provincial government had expressed its condolences and solidarity with Mir Raza’s family and had taken their concerns regarding the case seriously. The government also received a letter sent by the family to the chief minister.
According to the spokesperson, the judicial commission will conduct an impartial and transparent investigation into the case. It will examine any gaps in the investigation, important aspects of the case and evidence requiring further inquiry.
The commission will also review the role of police, medico-legal officers and other relevant officials. If negligence, dereliction of duty, professional misconduct or tampering with evidence is established, the commission may recommend appropriate action.
The commission will also have the authority to recommend further investigations and forensic analysis. It will have powers equivalent to those of a civil court under the Sindh Tribunals of Inquiry Ordinance, 1969, including summoning witnesses, recording statements under oath and seeking documents and official records.
The chief minister has directed all government departments, institutions and officials to fully cooperate with the commission, while the Home Department will provide the necessary secretarial support.
The commission will submit its report, findings and recommendations to the Sindh government within 30 days of its formation. Its tenure may be extended if required to ensure a complete and fair investigation.
The spokesperson said the commission would thoroughly review the investigation procedure and the role of relevant authorities and would have the authority to recommend action in accordance with the law.
The Sindh government, the spokesperson added, stands with Mir Raza’s family, while the transparent judicial inquiry is aimed at addressing their legitimate concerns and strengthening public confidence in the rule of law.
