Austria(Bureau Report) A person was killed in a fire in the Krems prison on Thursday. According to the Justice Department, the deceased is a 41-year-old inmate. The flames were contained by prison guards and there were no other injuries.
At the request of the Austria Press Agency, the Ministry of Justice confirmed that such an incident had occurred, but initially did not provide any details. In any case, the affected room was sealed and the incident reported to the police. The further investigations to clarify the cause of death are awaited,” it said in a written statement. The cell area where the flames raged has been temporarily closed. Inmates were housed in other cells of the Krems Prison. The fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. The firefighters went into the building on the spot, wearing respiratory protection, but only had to extinguish embers due to the speedy action of the prison guards.
