On Tuesday evening, a 17-year-old pregnant woman was found dead in Graz. The suspect is the 19-year-old alleged father of the child. The young woman was found dead in an apartment in the Geidorf district of Graz. According to the Styrian State Police Directorate, a 19-year-old suspect was arrested. He denies having anything to do with the demise of the youngsters. The man admitted that he had been in the apartment and that there was also an argument. At around 7 p.m. the police had received a report that the young Austrian had not appeared at work and was otherwise no longer available. When she was checked in her apartment, she was found lying lifeless by the bed. The State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation into suspected murder, and witnesses are questioned. There were rumors of stab wounds and cuts on the neck, but the autopsy had to prove that, the police said. Initial research revealed that the 19-year-old acquaintance and alleged father of the unborn child could be linked to the crime. The Austrian was confronted by the police in his apartment. He admitted that he was with the 17-year-old in the apartment on Monday evening and that there had been an argument with her there. According to Grundnig, however, he denies any connection with the death of the pregnant woman. The suspect was arrested by order of the prosecutor. A forensic investigation was carried out in the woman’s home. However, the evaluation is not yet complete. An autopsy was also ordered. The city of Graz said that the young woman was registered in Graz until July 2018, but that no accompanying care had been registered with the youth welfare office until then. However, her family received a subsidy for preventive therapies over a longer period of time. The 17-year-old had recently registered her place of residence in the Graz area. After moving to Graz four to five weeks ago, she apparently had not yet registered her main residence. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) referred in a press conference to the ongoing investigation. What one can already say at the moment is that the crime “developed spontaneously”. In any case, there was no entry ban or the like in the victim’s private environment. On Tuesday and Wednesday there were further acts of violence against women in Austria. In Upper Austria, a man is on the run after he is said to have stabbed his wife in front of his daughter. In Vienna-Favoriten, a man himself called the police after injuring his partner with a knife.
