Austria ( Muhammad Amir Saddique) When the holidays also begin for the Styrian schoolchildren on the weekend, many are drawn to the south. The ÖAMTC warns Croatia holidaymakers in particular against alternative routes via non-international border crossings. These are not permitted for Austrians. When crossing the border away from the international border crossings, there is a risk of a fine of up to 1,200 euros per person for “illegal entry”, according to the ÖAMTC. ÖAMTC lawyer Verena Pronebner is familiar with the problem: “It happens again and again that travelers do not use an international border crossing to avoid traffic jams – but another one that is only permitted for Slovenes.” However, this means that travelers enter “illegally” Country and violate the law protecting the Schengen external border between Slovenia and Croatia. According to the expert, it is no longer possible to take action against the very high fines of up to 1,200 euros per person traveling with retrospect. The motorists’ club therefore recommends making sure that you use an international border crossing from Croatia to Slovenia – despite the risk of traffic jams.
