LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif issued strict directive to ensure that all workers employed under the Suthra Punjab Program get their salaries by the 5th of every month, warning that delays will not be tolerated.
In a special review meeting on Suthra Punjab Program in Lahore, CM took serious notice of delays in workers’ salary payments and ordered action against those responsible. She also directed the relevant companies to submit monthly reports confirming timely payment of workers’ salaries.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that protecting the rights of sanitation workers and ensuring their timely payment was the government’s responsibility. She further directed authorities to clear contractors’ outstanding dues at the earliest to prevent any disruption to sanitation operations across the province.
Under the new directives, sanitation workers must receive their salaries by the 5th of each month, while the companies responsible for their employment will be required to provide regular payment reports.
CM made it clear that effective field monitoring would be essential to ensure compliance and ordered authorities to identify and immediately address shortcomings in the sanitation system.
Maryam Nawaz ordered the mandatory use of uniform dustbins and garbage bags in all markets and commercial areas. Specific timings are also to be established for garbage collection from commercial centers, while the cleaning and washing of roads and highways must begin every day at 5am.
CM further ordered authorities to ensure the cleaning of all vacant plots, aiming to prevent them from becoming dumping grounds. The provincial government directed the effective implementation of a door-to-door garbage collection system throughout Punjab.
Special attention is to be given to sanitation at educational institutions, hospitals, railway tracks, parks, green belts, markets and the entry and exit points of cities, according to the directives issued during the meeting.
Chief Minister ordered regular washing and cleaning of vehicles, garbage containers and waste points being used under the Suthra Punjab Program. All Deputy Commissioners have been directed to maintain close coordination with contractors and WASA Managing Directors and ensure that problems identified in the field are resolved immediately.
The meeting reviewed sanitation conditions in different parts of the province as well as the overall performance of the Suthra Punjab Program.
She made it clear that effective monitoring and payment of workers’ salaries on time must be ensured at all costs, while those responsible for delays or negligence could face action.
The directives signal a tougher approach by the Punjab government toward sanitation contractors, with worker salaries, contractor payments, field monitoring and cleanliness standards all coming under increased scrutiny.
