CTV( Khalid) Japan Tokyo The number of foreign visitors to Japan in February increased by 6.4 percent from the same month last year, despite the continuing drop in travelers from China.
The Japan National Tourism Organization says more than 3.46 million people visited from overseas last month, the highest figure ever recorded for February.
The number of foreign visitors dropped in January for the first time since January 2022, as arrivals from China plunged amid a souring of bilateral relations.
February’s total marks the first increase in two months.
By country or region, arrivals from China were down 45.2 percent year-on-year. Normally, China’s numbers increase in February because of the Lunar New Year.
Visitors from South Korea were up 28.2 percent, and those from Taiwan were up 36.7 percent.
Arrivals from Hong Kong grew 19.6 percent, following a drop in January.
Travelers from Mexico marked an increase of 42.8 percent, and those from India were up 22.7 percent.
