Japan ( Tokyo) Japan announces strict new crackdown on foreigners to address public anxiety and unfairness
The Japanese government has officially unveiled a comprehensive policy aimed at strictly regulating the lives of foreign residents.
Minister Kimi Onoda clarified that Japan is not promoting immigration but is instead enforcing “orderly coexistence” through rigid new rules.
The plan includes a vigorous “Zero Illegal Stayers” initiative to find and deport those without valid visas.
Authorities will now perform much stricter residency screenings to ensure foreigners are not evading taxes or social insurance premiums.
New limits have been placed on the number of skilled workers allowed into the country, reducing previous quotas significantly.
The government emphasized that these specific work visas do not allow for bringing family members or obtaining permanent residency.
Permanent residency permits will face a massive overhaul with significantly tighter screening processes and shortened durations of stay.
Officials also intend to review rules regarding land acquisition by foreigners and implement aggressive countermeasures against overtourism.
