Japan(Tokyo) International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, now visiting Japan, will go to Hiroshima on Friday and meet survivors of the atomic bombing.
The Tokyo Games organizing committee says its chief, Hashimoto Seiko, will accompany Bach on his visit to the city’s Peace Memorial Park and Peace Memorial Museum.
In the park, Bach is scheduled to lay a wreath at the cenotaph and meet atomic-bomb survivors.
Governor Yuzaki Hidehiko of Hiroshima Prefecture and Mayor Matsui Kazumi of Hiroshima City will also attend their meeting.
Friday, the day Bach visits Hiroshima, marks the first day of the Olympic Truce, stipulated in a UN General Assembly resolution that calls for a halt to hostilities across the globe.
On the same day, IOC Coordination Commission Chair John Coates will visit Nagasaki City, where he is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Peace Memorial Hall dedicated to the victims of the city’s atomic bombing.
Coates will also meet Governor Nakamura Hodo of Nagasaki Prefecture and Mayor Taue Tomihisa of Nagasaki City.
