After the accident, the young man tried to escape on foot. He crossed the autobahn and ended up injured on the embankment next to the A14. He had to be taken to the Feldkirch State Hospital. An alcohol test carried out there was positive. The 24-year-old told the police that he was not behind the wheel. The emergency services searched the A14 with thermal imaging cameras, but no one could be found. A witness testified that the driver was sitting alone in the car. The A14 had to be closed to all traffic for around an hour in both directions.
