Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has told his British counterpart, Boris Johnson, his country will work together with Britain to achieve carbon neutrality.
Kishida met with Johnson during his visit to the United Kingdom to attend the COP26 climate change conference, which was his first overseas trip since he became prime minister in October.
Johnson welcomed Kishida, calling him an old friend. He thanked Kishida for taking a long trip to come to Britain as well as the commitment he has pledged to the world.
In response, Kishida explained Japan’s reduction goal of greenhouse gas emissions and pledged up to 10 billion dollars over the next five years to help developing nations.
Kishida expressed his intention to work with Johnson to lead the world toward a carbon-free society.
Kishida also suggested that ties between Japan and Britain have never been stronger, and referred to Japan’s promotion of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
