Police have detained a man who brandished a knife on a running train in the western Tokyo city of Chofu. Police say at least six people were injured, one seriously.
Police say the incident took place at around 8:00 p.m. local time on Sunday. The train was operating on the Keio railway line near Kokuryo Station.
Witnesses said the man scattered liquid inside the car and set it ablaze. Firefighting officials say the flames left part of a seat burned.
Sources said the man is believed to be around age 20.
Six ambulances were called to the site.
