The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) Japanese Animation Section will feature a variety of events in its Tokusatsu Sidebar that focus on KAMEN RIDER (a.k.a MASKED RIDER), the pioneer superhero, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. An exciting lineup of guests will appear to recall the brilliant trajectory of the masked heroes who are fan favorites of all generations.
At the screening of MASKED RIDER, Fujioka Hiroshi, who played the first legend in the series, Hongo Takeshi, will appear on stage. He was told by original author Ishinomori Shotaro that “Your actions embody the very essence of the MASKED RIDER.” Additional guests will appear at each screening. TIFF will also hold a symposium where creators such as director Kaneda Osamu, screenwriter Sanjo Riku and producer Shirakura Shinichiro will talk about the past and future of the series.
At the Hibiya Step Square in Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, live talk shows related to the KAMEN RIDER series, which were very popular last year when we featured Super Sentai, will be streamed outside on the huge screen. In addition, members of the Showa-era Riders will come together for a miraculous gathering at the event. We will also welcome guests from “Amazon Riders,” which began streaming on Amazon Prime
Video in 2016 and quickly became a hot topic for its hard-hitting depictions and exciting developments, and from “Kamen Rider OOO,” which gained great buzz for its deep story development with the theme of “greed” and a key item called O-medal. Producer Omori Takahito, who served on KAMEN RIDER series from the Heisei to Reiwa eras, will appear on the outdoor stage to discuss his masterpiece, “Kamen Rider Drive.”
