Austria ( Muhammad Amir Siddique). SPÖ Boss Dr Pamela Rendi-Wagner visited Tyrol as part of her tour of Austria. Affordable living is a growing problem, especially in Tyrol. The SPÖ is demanding immediate measures from the government to relieve the people.
After Carinthia, Dr Pamela Rendi-Wagner, visited Tyrol on her tour through all of Austria. As part of her federal state days, she and the state party leaders focus on what lessons we need to learn from the corona crisis. The corona crisis has enormous economic and social consequences. “And politics must react to this and have answers. You have to be ready to break new ground and cut off old braids, ”makes Rendi-Wagner clear. A strong welfare state is required – also in the area of housing. There is one lesson for Rendi-Wagner: The Corona crisis has shown how important a reliable welfare state is. And that also applies in particular to the area of housing: “An active state is needed, the issue of affordable housing must not be left to the market!”, Clarifies our chairwoman. Even before the crisis, housing was the biggest cost driver. The rental and purchase prices for apartments have risen constantly for 20 years. “Many people already spend 50 percent of their income only on housing. The goal would be to get in the direction of 25 percent, ”stresses Rendi-Wagner. In the last 4 years alone, the average rent rose by 12.2 percent – significantly more than the general inflation rate of 7.3 percent. Corona has made the living situation even worse. The Corona crisis has made the situation worse – due to falling incomes, short-time working, and unemployment. In Innsbruck, for example, a 70 square meter apartment costs around half a million euros. “Who can afford that?” Asks Rendi-Wagner. For them it is clear: “Falling incomes, rising housing costs: at some point that will no longer work. If this gap becomes too big, then many people have an ever-increasing problem. ”One reason for the rising housing costs are real estate speculators, who also exacerbate the housing shortage. Politicians must take countermeasures here. Because: “Everyone needs a home. Housing must not be a luxury, housing is a basic right. We want every family, every apprentice, every single and every elderly couple to have an affordable home. But that is no longer the case in many cities.
