Japan(Tokyo) The Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed 1,429 new infections of the coronavirus in the capital on Monday.
The figure is up 702 from a week earlier, and is the highest for a Monday since the pandemic began last year.
The daily figure also surpassed the 1,000 mark for a seventh straight day.
The total number of cases in the capital now stands at 200,720.
Tokyo officials also say that 78 patients are in serious condition.
