Japan ( News) China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, accusing her administration of rapidly expanding the military sector and preparing for long-term warfare. He questioned whether Japan is moving toward remilitarization, warning it could destabilize East Asia given its history of aggression.
Takaichi had emphasized revising Japan’s key security documents and urged learning from conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine conflict and tensions in the Middle East to prepare for new forms of warfare.
Lin stressed that Japan’s past militarism caused suffering across Asia and noted that postwar agreements such as the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Proclamation required Japan’s disarmament. He added that Japan’s recent actions contradict its peaceful image and resemble past war rhetoric.
Marking 80 years since the Tokyo Trials, Lin urged the international community to remain vigilant against any return to militarism.
