
SANTA SUSANNA, November 6, 2021 – The annual Congress of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) was held at the Santa Susanna Sports Center, with the president of Federation Dr. Rafael Santonja, the mayor of the city Joan Campolier and delegates from more than 80 countries in attendance.
The Congress was held as part of the IFBB’s 75th anniversary celebration.
The main event on the agenda was the World Championships, which began on November 4, and will last until November 8.
About 2000 athletes representing various national associations, in addition to the federative delegates and official guests, will occupy the 3,000 hotel reservations in the municipality, generating 16,000 overnight stays.
This will be the first time in IFBB history that all five fitness categories, male, female, junior, senior and master will compete in the same championship and in the same venue.
The tournament can be followed through streaming and on social media networks, where the IFBB has more than one million followers, the main ones being Facebook and Instagram.

During the congress, President Santonja highlighted the level of institutional relations that the IFBB has, both at the level of government authorities, and Olympic and sport organizations, as well as those that make up the framework of contributions to the development of education and academic training, carried out by organizations such as AIPS, with its Young Reporters Programme. In the Congress book, three sheets were dedicated to highlighting the importance of the relationship and mutual commitment between IFBB and AIPS, noting the presence of Dr. Santonja at the 2020 Congress held in Budapest.
Later, the President highlighted in an intervention the importance of the strategic objectives and the new challenges facing the Federation. Among the objectives, he highlighted the sustainability of the IFBB in the future, gender equity as a substantial value, a clean sport and the main tournaments that will be referenced by the Federation. Creativity, inspiration and action.
The International Women’s Fitness Show, The Sports Fitness Games, Mr. Universe with editions on all continents, the Night of Champions that will be hosted by Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), the Arnold Classic Europe, the Pan-Arab Games, among others complete a voluminous 2022 agenda.
All delegates were informed, through the IFBB Medical Commission, of the rules and regulations that the IFBB will require in all tournaments in terms of medical care and medical logistics, as well as a presentation that can be seen on the website of the Federation, on how the athlete must respect their own health and the sport, respecting doping controls.
