After more than 13 years of waiting, GTA 6 is finally coming, and Rockstar just dropped bombshell that could make most hyped game on the planet even more exciting.
Rockstar Games delivered surprise ahead of launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, confirming that the year’s most anticipated blockbuster will arrive without traditional microtransactions or generative AI.
After more than decade of waiting, GTA fans finally have another reason to get excited. During recent conversation with Kinda Funny Games, Rockstar was reportedly asked two questions that have become increasingly important in modern gaming: Will players have to spend real money inside GTA 6, and did AI help create the game?
The biggest headline is Rockstar’s reported decision to launch GTA 6 without a traditional microtransaction system. Players should not expect to repeatedly spend real money on virtual currency, cosmetic items or other digital purchases when the game arrives.
That is a striking decision in an industry where major releases increasingly rely on recurring in-game spending. For a community that has waited more than 13 years for a new mainline GTA game, the news could remove one of the biggest concerns surrounding the blockbuster release.
But there is a catch as Rockstar is not eliminating premium content entirely. The standard edition is priced at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99 and comes with additional digital content tied to Jason and Lucia.
Buyers of the more expensive version will reportedly receive exclusive cosmetics, vehicles, weapons and access to special locations. Among the highlighted extras are the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and Stock 305 clothing store. Players who purchase the standard edition will also reportedly have the option to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition separately.
So GTA 6 may not have traditional microtransactions at launch, but Rockstar is still using a premium-edition strategy to monetize additional content.
No Generative AI in GTA6
Another major revelation is no AI as Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller reportedly asked Rockstar whether generative AI had been used in the development of GTA 6. The studio’s answer was direct, there is no AI used in the game. The statement comes at a time when AI has become one of the gaming industry’s most controversial technologies.
Developers are increasingly experimenting with AI-assisted tools, while gamers and industry professionals continue to debate whether artificial intelligence should be involved in creating characters, dialogue, environments and other creative elements.
Rockstar’s reported decision to keep generative AI out of GTA 6 could therefore become a major selling point for players who want a traditionally crafted gaming experience.
The long wait is almost over. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. The confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. PC gamers, however, are still waiting for Rockstar to reveal a release date.
If Rockstar follows its previous strategy, the PC version could arrive sometime after the console launch.
The game has already endured delays and major leaks during development, but Rockstar is now targeting the November release window.
GTA 6 will bring players back to the legendary Vice City, but Rockstar is dramatically expanding the setting.
The game takes place across the fictional state of Leonida, a massive environment inspired by different parts of Florida.
The world includes Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Mount Kalaga, and Ambrosia. Rockstar has yet to reveal the official size of the complete map. However, reports and alleged footage have suggested that GTA 6 could feature a considerably larger playable world than previous entries.
At the center of the story are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Lucia begins the story after being released from prison and is determined to build a new future. Jason becomes an important part of her plans, but their ambitions quickly pull them into a dangerous criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
Players will be able to take part in missions together while also exploring the world and engaging in activities away from the main storyline.
GTA 6 could potentially offer around 80 hours of gameplay when optional content is included. Players who stick mainly to the central story may finish the game sooner. The final playtime will depend heavily on how much of Leonida players explore and how many side activities they choose to experience.
