ISLAMABAD – Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf has been appointed the new Chief Commissioner of Islamabad after removal of Ali Randhawa from the position.
Establishment Division issued a formal notification confirming his appointment, replacing Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who previously served as both Chief Commissioner and chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
New Islamabad Commissioner
Over the years, Ashraf has held several important administrative roles at both district and provincial levels.
- Deputy Commissioner, Faisalabad
- Deputy Commissioner, Mandi Bahauddin and Gujranwala
- Director General, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab
- Director General, Industries
- Secretary, Communication and Works Department, Punjab
These positions gave him experience in governance, disaster management, infrastructure development, and district administration.
With his appointment, Ashraf now takes charge of Islamabad’s top administrative office at a time when the CDA is facing a range of complex challenges, from stalled development projects and urban planning issues to growing water shortages and sanitation concerns.
Officials say one of Ashraf’s immediate priorities will be ensuring strict adherence to rules and regulations in development projects. Transparency and fair competition in awarding contracts are considered essential to safeguard the interests of both the authority and residents of the capital.
One of the most serious problems facing Islamabad is the growing water shortage. Despite the capital’s population increasing dramatically over the past three decades, no significant new water source has been developed.
