CTV( japan) Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae has arrived in Washington for a summit with US President Donald Trump.
A government plane carrying Takaichi arrived at a US air base in the suburbs of Washington shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, local time.
Takaichi and Trump will meet on Thursday at the White House. They are expected to discuss how to deal with the situation in Iran.
Takaichi said before her departure from Tokyo that the most important thing is to immediately calm the situation. She said she wants to discuss the matter, taking Japan’s position and views into account.
She noted that if the Iran situation continues to remain unstable, it would have a significant impact on the Japanese and US economies, and ultimately on the global economy.
She said she wants to also discuss economic security, as this could also be affected.
Takaichi is expected to speak to reporters about her discussions with Trump, after their working lunch. A dinner party hosted by Trump is also scheduled.
The summit will be the second face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.
Takaichi aims to reaffirm the importance of the Japan-US alliance and strengthen the two nations’ ties in a wide range of fields such as economic cooperation, including Japanese investment in the US.
