Austria (Report: Muhammad Amir Siddique) ÖVP Education Minister Heinz Faßmann, together with representatives of the Catholic Church and the Islamic Faith Community (IGGÖ), appealed in a letter to parents to have their children vaccinated. The aim of the two letters is to also inform those communities about the free vaccination offers in Austria that cannot be reached via traditional communication channels, according to the Ministry of Education. In his letter with the Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, and with IGGÖ President Ümit Vural, Faßmann asks parents to inquire about vaccination options and – “if they think it is beneficial” – for themselves and their children from the age of twelve Years to register. The past few months have been a difficult phase for religious and community life, but the coronavirus vaccination has significantly improved the situation, according to the two letters. “A safe coexistence in schools, in leisure facilities, with friends, within the family and also in religious institutions has become possible.” Therefore, parents are now asked to check the possibility of vaccination.
