ISLAMABAD – A firing incident at Sarhad University’s Islamabad campus triggered swift action from Pakistan Army, with the military officer allegedly involved in incident taken into custody and a formal inquiry launched.
The incident occurred on August 24, 2026, when a weapon was discharged at the university campus, prompting the Army’s relevant department to immediately take notice of the matter. The officer involved has been placed in custody under the military’s code of conduct. An investigation has also been initiated alongside disciplinary proceedings to determine the facts surrounding the incident and establish responsibility.

Army said its disciplinary mechanism operates on principles of swift justice, impartiality and strict accountability, stressing that no individual would be exempt from the process when military rules are violated.
The military further stressed that its internal accountability system is based on concrete evidence and verified facts rather than allegations. Officials said the mechanism is designed to move swiftly whenever established laws, regulations or codes of conduct are breached. The incident has once again brought attention to the Army’s internal disciplinary framework, under which personnel found responsible for violations can face legal and disciplinary consequences.
For the context, Lieutenant Colonel wife, Dr. Aina, teaches at this university, and she had an issue with the Head of Department. The case against HoD was proven, and he was suspended. The students were with the HoD and were protesting for his reinstatement.
When Dr. Aina visited the university, the woman was abused with insults and vile language. There are also reports of alleged physical assault from the students. Dr. Aina immediately called her husband, Lieutenant Colonel, who arrived there right away, and things went south in heat of the moment.
Pakistan Army reiterated that its system of self-accountability is a longstanding institutional practice and is applied without discrimination.
“All those found responsible will have to face the legal consequences of their actions,” officials assured, underscoring that the inquiry and disciplinary process would determine responsibility based on available evidence.
